Bogor Botanical Garden (Kebun Raya Bogor)

Bogor Botanical Garden or we call it "Kebun Raya Bogor" is the most iconic place in Bogor. Maybe, it is the only one that city have a jungle in center of city. Yeah, Bogor Botanical Garder is kind of jungle that placed in center of Bogor city. It have long historical story and it starting from Sundanes Kingdom.

Some source say that Bogor Botanical Garder initiated by Sri Baduga Maharaja / Prabu Siliwangi who king of Sundanese Kingdom. He want an artificial forest who keep rare seeds of a tree for the preservation of nature. It called Samida means arficial forest.

In early 1800s, Governor General of Dutch who take command, Thomas Raffles had some interest in gardening. So he call botanist to build an artificial forest near Bogor Palace. The botanist conjure the arount the courtyard that we known as Bogor Botanical Garden in present.

That's a little history of how the forerunner of today's Bogor Botanical Garden. Now, Bogor Botanical Garden operated by LIPI (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahunan Indonesia) or Indonesia Institute of Science. It covered around 87 hectares and surrounded by high fence.

We can enter to Bogor Botanical Garder by three gates. The main gates is near Pasar Bogor, in the of Jalan Ir. H. Juanda near Jalan Otto Iskandar Dinata. Other two gates is near Post Office at Jalan Ir. H. Juanda and the other gate is at Jalan Pajajaran.

Bogor Botanical Garden is favorite place to spend time in weekend. People from Jakarta and other place around Bogor came up to here with family. It best place to picnic, we can bring our own lunch and take picnic under big trees or on lawn.

The reason it become favorite place for people spend their holiday is the ticket. Ticket to enter Bogor Botanical Garder is cheap, for local tourist is only 14.000 IDR and for foreign tourist is only 25.000 IDR ($2).

We can reach to Bogor Botanical Garder by public transportation. Almost public transportation is through it. If we start from Bogor Station we can take angkot with number 02 or take a walk. From Terminal Baranang Siang we can take angkot with number 03, 06, 13.
